Abstract Objective To investigate the effect of exertional heat stroke (EHS) induced by military training on levels of HSP72 of patients. Methods The HSP72 levels of fourteen EHS patients admitted between January 2012 and June 2016 were analyzed and compared with those of recruits, veterans and general heat stroke patients. Results The serum HSP72 levels of EHS patients were significantly higher than those in the general heat stroke group(62.14±9.18)ng/ml,veterans group(41.85±5.34)ng/ml and recruits group(35.52±5.16)ng/ml; the difference was statistically significant(P<0.001). There were positive correlations between HSP72 levels and APACHE Ⅱ scores in EHS patients (correlation coefficient r=0.631,P=0.016).Conclusions The detection of serum HSP72 levels in patients is conducive to diagnosis and monitoring of EHS.
