Longitudinal environmental effects on craniofacial depth in cephalograms of female twins aged six to twelve |

Abstract Objective To study the relative effects of the environment and genes on craniofacial depth during mixed dentitions.Methods The samples used in this study consisted of lateral cephalograms of one hundred and eighty-three female twins. The environmental and genetic effects on craniofacial depth among female twins aged six to twelve were analyzed with statistical methods.Results Statistical comparisons revealed significant environmental and genetic effects on the horizon measurement results (L1, L2 and L3) and soft tissue depth results (D1, D2 and D3) in female twins, and significant genetic effects on the angle measurement results (G-Sn-Pos and Ns-Sn-Pos).Conclusions The effect of genes on craniofacial depth is significant, while the environmental impact can also be observed.
