Results of intelligence test, state-trait anxiety and expertise of nurses on work shift |

Abstract Objective To investigate the results of intelligence test, state-trait anxiety and expertise of nurses on work shift.Methods During the heath examination in the spring of 2017 at our hospital, 41 clinical female nurses on work shift were selected (shift group), and another 38 nurses of the same age and the same gender who worked on day shift only were selected as the control group. The subjects of both groups were assessed in terms of the results of intelligence test (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised China, WAIS-RC), moods (State-trait Anxiety Inventory, STAI) and nursing expertise.Results In WAIS-RC measurement, the total score of the intelligence test was 47.71±5.29 for the shift group and 55.06±6.74 for the control group. As for the results of the status-trait anxiety questionnaire, the ST-AI of the shift group was 83.77±17.20, compared with 76.86±14.17 in the control group. In the measurement of expertise, the total score of nursing expertise in the shift group was 45.30±6.19, but was 55.06±6.74 for the control group.Conclusions First-line nurses in major hospitals have poor mental health, poor cognitive function and intelligence test performance, and poor expertise.
