Abstract Objective To study the composition and characteristics of injuries after tropical cyclones(TCs) in order to provide data for precise medical rescue during a disaster. Methods PubMed, Web of Science and CNKI database were searched for literature related to injuries after TCs. Rev Man 5.3 software was used. The data on rates of injuries after TCs was merged before heterogeneity was determined and the corresponding effect model was selected. The publication bias via the AHRQ scale was identified. At the same time, subgroup analysis was performed according to the time TCs occurred. Results The results of meta analysis of 25 pieces of included literature showed that open injuries (42%) were the most common type of TC injuries, followed by soft tissue injuries (33%), fractures (32%), burns (3%), compression injuries (2%), drowning injuries (1%) and nerve injuries (1%). Falls (24%) were the most common cause of injuries, followed by cutting (23%), strike/crush (17%), and animal (insect) bites (9%). Compared with TCs before 2010, the percentages of soft tissue damage and fractures significantly increased after 2010, while those of falls and strike/crush as causes of TC injuries went up.Conclusions After the occurrence of TCs, open injuries are dominating, and falls are the main cause. The types of injuries and percentages of causes of injuries vary with time.
