Abstract:Objective To study the effects of a new type of foot-support plate in the post-stroke patients with foot drop. Methods 76 hospitalized post-stroke patients with foot-drop were randomly divided into foot-support plate group(38 patients)and control group (38 patients). The foot-support plate group intermittently used the new foot-support plates 3 times a day, and the wearing time was not less than 8 hours every day before and after rehabilitation treatment. The control group were treated with square pillows under foot, maintained in function position (ankle at 90 °) . The two groups of patients all received the same routine drug and rehabilitation exercise. The angle of foot-drop and varus in the two groups were measured before and after treatment. Results After 1 month of treatment, in two groups of patients with foot-drop, the varus angle was less than before treatment, with statistically significant difference (P<0.01). In the foot-support plate group, compared with the control group, both foot drop angle (24.5 ° ± 4.2 ° vs 28.4 ° ± 5.1 °), and varus angle (19.4 ° ± 2.0 ° vs 21.2 ° ± 1.5 °), were improved significantly, with statistically significant difference (P<0.01). Conclusions The new type of foot-support plate can significantly improve foot-drop and life skills in stroke patients with hemiplegia, and is easy to carry and use, worthy of clinical application.
