Abstract:Objective To evaluate the application value of portable digital radiography system (DR) in the diagnosis of fracture injuries in field environments. Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out on 191 patients with suspected fractures which incurred during 6 outdoor missions by the Third Medical Center of Chinese PLA General Hospital from January 2019 to March 2022. All fracture sites were examined with both portable and mobile DR, the final clinical diagnoses were taken as the gold standard, and the respective fracture diagnosis accuracies as well as sensitivities of both devices were compared. Afterwards, the imaging qualities of both imaging systems were also analyzed. Results There was no significant difference in imaging quality between portable DR and mobile DR. Of the 191 patients with suspected fractures, 91 were diagnosed after taking corresponding treatment. 80 cases (41.9%) were detected by portable DR, 6 cases were misdiagnosed and 11 cases were missed, while 84 cases (44.0%) were detected by mobile DR, 6 cases were misdiagnosed, and 7 cases were missed. There was no significant difference between the two methods. The accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of portable DR in fracture diagnosis were close to those of mobile DR. Conclusions The fracture diagnosis performance of portable DR in field operation sites is basically comparable to that of mobile DR.
