Effect of amlodipine and telmisartan on vascular endothelial function in patients with essential hypertension and on quality of life

Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effect of amlodipine and telmisartan on the endothelial function of patients with essential hypertension and on quality of life of patients.Methods Seventy-four patients with primary hypertension treated at No. 153 Central Hospital between April 2016 and May 2017 were selected and equally divided into the control group(oral amlodipine treatment) and the study group(oral amlodipine and telmisartan treatment)to observe the effect of control of blood pressure, endothelial function and the improvement of quality of life.Results After 2, 4, 8 weeks, the average diastolic pressure and systolic pressure in the study group were significantly lower than those of the control group(P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of ET and LOP in the study group were significantly lower than those of the control group(t=8.410、18.329,P<0.05),but the levels of NO and SOD were significantly higher (t=14.834、6.515,P<0.05).The scores of 4 dimensions in the GQOLI-74 scale of the study group were considerably increased after treatment and significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).The incidence of adverse reactions in the two groups was 10.81% and 13.51%, respectively, so there was no significant difference between them(χ2=0.462,P>0.05).Conclusions Treatment of essential hypertension with amlodipine and telmisartan can better control blood pressure, improve the endothelial function and quality of life of patients without increasing adverse reactions.
