Simultaneous determination of ferulic acid and glycyrrhizic acid in Xiao Yao Wan by HPLC

Abstract:Objective To establish a method for the determination of ferulic acid and glycyrrhizic acid in Xiao Yao Wan.Methods The separation was performed on an Agilent Zorbax XDB-C18 column(150 mm×4.6 mm,5 μm)with acetonitrile/ phosphoric acid solution(0.05%) as the mobile phase with gradient elution at the flow rate of 1.0 ml/min. The detection wavelength was set at 278 nm, and the column temperature was 35 ℃.Results The linear range of ferulic acid and glycyrrhizic acid was 0.054-0.596 μg (r=0.9995) and 0.110-1.217 μg (r=0.9993) respectively. The average recovery was 99.29%(RSD=1.28%, n=6) and 98.34%(RSD=1.61%,n=6) respectively.Conclusions The established HPLC method has proved to be user-friendly, reproducible, precise and suitable for the content determination of Xiao Yao Wan.
