Abstract:Objective To explore the safety and effectiveness of retroperitoneal laparoscopic ureterectomy (RLUL) in the treatment of incarcerated upper ureteral calculi. Methods A total of 122 patients with incarcerated upper ureteral calculi treated in our hospital between October 2017 and December 2019 were selected and randomly divided into the study group(n=62) and control group (n=60). The study group was treated with retroperitoneal laparoscopic ureterectomy (RLUL) while the control group underwent adopted percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). The related indicators, stone removal rate and incidence of complications were compared between the two groups during the perioperative period. Results Intraoperative blood loss, duration of surgery and length of hospital stay in the study group were lower or shorter than those of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).The stone removal rate of the study group (100.00%) was significantly higher than that of the control group (83.33%) while the complication rate of the study group (4.83%) was significantly lower than that of the control group (15.00%). Conclusions RLUL is a safe and effective treatment for incarcerated upper ureteral calculi, with less trauma, higher stone removal rate, fewer complications, and quicker postoperative recovery.
