Clinic Analysis of Surgery Complications of Open Mastoidectomy with Tympanoplasty from 438 Cases of Middle Ear Cholesteatoma

Abstract:Objective To discuss the effective measures through analyzing the complications of open mastoidectomy with tympanoplasty from 438 cases of middle ear cholesteatoma.Methods All of the complications of open mastoidectomy with tympanoplasty from 438 cases of middle ear cholesteatoma were analyzed.Results Of those 438 cases of middle ear cholesteatoma, hearing loss(15.8%), ear canal stenosis(9.6%) , unilateral taste decline(7.8%),diziness(3.7%),infection(2.5%),prolapse of the artificial ossicle(2.1%),relapse(2%),tinnitus(1.8%),otorhinorrhea(1.1%),facioplegia(0.5%)were the common 10 complications. Among them, hearing loss, ear canal stenosis and unilateral taste decline were the first three.Conclusions The surgeon should be familiar with the complex middle ear structure and improve the skill constantly to reduce complications.
