The effect of 8-week basic military training on serum adiponectin concentrations of lean recruits |

Abstract Objective To investigate the effect of 8-week basic military training(BMT) on lean recruits'(BMI<18.5 kg/m2) serum total adiponectin, high molecular weight(HMW) adiponectin and the ratio of HMW to total adiponectin(HMW/Total). Methods BMT included military training and physical training. Twenty-four lean recruits were sampled from 300 recruits in 2016 in an army in Xinjiang. The subjects' height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, BMI and waist-to-hip ratio were measured and recorded at the beginning and end of 8-week BMT respectively. VO2max was measured via 12 minutes' test,while serum total adiponectin and HMW adiponectin were measured with ELISA(enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). Results After 8-week BMT, BMI and VO2max increased significantly,serum total adiponectin and HMW adiponectin improved, but this increase was not significant.Moreover, HMW/Total increased significantly (0.44±0.15 vs 0.53±0.16, P<0.01). Conclusions 8-week BMT can significantly improve the proportion of HMW adiponectin in total adiponectin among lean recruits.
