Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship of serum NGAL level and severity of illness in patients with acute renal failure(ARF). Methods Serum NGAL was detected using ELISA while the severity of illness of all ARF patients were evaluated by APACHE Ⅲ score system. Results Serum NGAL level in ARF patients was markedly higher than that in the control group and positively correlated with APACHE Ⅲ scores. Conclusions Serum NGAL level may be one biomarker for severity of illness in ARF patients and real time monitoring of serum NGAL level in ARF patients may shorten the evaluation time for severity of illness.
