Oral candidal infection related factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract:Objective To analyze the oral candidal infection related risk factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods 80 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients admitted to this hospital between January 2008 and July 2012 were enrolled into the present study. Data on demographic information, oral health and oral bacterial infection were collected and analysized, the correlationship between these factors and oral candidal infection was statastically analyzed by logistic regression method. Results OR values of fasting blood glucose, dental calculus and xerostomia, were 1.568 (P<0.05), 3.540(P<0.05), and 3.879(P<0.05), respectively. Conclusions High level of blood sugar and xerostomia are risk factors for oral candidal infections in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
