Abstract:Objective To investigate the life quality and mental health of patients with psoriasis in order to provide data for the selection of intervention methods. Methods The Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) was used to evaluate the life quality of psoriatic patients. The Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) were employed to assess the mental health of psoriatic patients. Results 91.07% of the patients had their life quality affected to some extent, 29.46% of whom were moderately affected and 18.75% were severely affected. Univariate analysis of variance showed that the effects on the life quality of patients with psoriasis (P<0.05) varied according to gender, age, education levels, types or severity of psoriasis and duration of the disease. Risk factors for the poor life quality of patients included femininity, 18 to 30 years of age, high education levels, the erythroid type and high PASI scores. 65% of these psoriatic patients had different levels of anxiety, and 54% of them showed depression to different extents. Patients with erythrodermic psoriasis displayed more severe anxiety and depression than those with the other three types of psoriasis, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Additionally, the higher the PASI score, the more serious the condition, and the higher mean value of anxiety and depression scale. The difference was also statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusions Patients’ life quality is affected by psoriasis to different degrees, and their mental health is usually poor, most of whom have such psychological problems as anxiety and depression. Health-care providers should care for not only physical treatment but also the mental health of patients. Early psychological intervention is recommended.
