Abstract: historical method used to be the main ways to research the issue of development in the age of Classic Economics, but it was abandoned by the new-classical economics. The method of abstract deduction and quantitative research used by the main economical theory cannot explain the qualitative change during innovation and development. The historical method plays an important role in studying the long-term evolution. All the German historical school, American historical school, Schumpeter and evolutionary economics emphasize the roles of historical method in researching innovation and development, and which has important implications for the research method and practice of China’s innovation and development.
