Product Innovation for the Base of the Pyramid Market

摘要: 金字塔底层(BOP)市场为企业提供了新的创新机会与增长空间,企业可以通过为穷人开发低成本、高质量的产品而创造出经济与社会的双重价值。但对于企业运用何种策略与方法才能开发出适合于BOP市场环境与消费者特质的新产品,现有文献却并没有给予充分的理论与实践指导。因此,本文以中国与印度BOP市场内的六项产品创新为研究对象,运用多案例研究方法归纳出四个关键成功因素并构建了相应的分析框架,既丰富了面向BOP市场的创新研究,也为企业实践提供了借鉴。

Abstract: The Base of the Pyramid (BOP) market provides new opportunities of innovation and growth for the future and the enterprises can create economic and social value at the same time by developing low-cost and high-quality products for poor people. However, the literature offers little theoretical or practical guidelines for effective and efficient strategies or methods facilitating innovative product development in the BOP market. Based on the qualitative data on six product innovation cases in Chinese and Indian BOP market, this paper summarizes four key successful factors necessary for effective product development and develops corresponding analytical framework. The research not only enriches the field of innovation in BOP market but also gives references for enterprises’ innovative practice.
